Endangered Species - Cross River Gorilla

Image
About The Cross River Gorilla is a subspecies of the Western Gorilla, the main difference in the two species can be identified from the size and shape of their skulls. Cross River Gorillas can grow up to 5.5 ft tall when standing on two feet and weigh about 440 lbs. It is difficult for scientists to accurately measure the population of this species as they inhabit rugged territories that are difficult for human access. However, scientists have been able to estimate that there are around 200-300 Cross River Gorillas still in the wild through  observing nests and other indirect signs. Habitat The Cross River Gorilla lives in forest habitats mostly in the area highlighted on the map above.  Role in Ecosystem The Cross River Gorilla plays an important role in the ecosystem it is in because it disperses seeds throughout the forest. They can travel several hundred miles per day which helps with germination and cultivation of seeds.  Why are they disappearing? The rapidly increasing population in Southeast Asia is causing...

Introduction

Hi everyone! My name is Ganesh Ravela and I am a 2 nd  year business analytics major. My favorite animal is definitely the elephant as they are very smart mammals with high emotional intelligence. Growing up in Southeast Asia, I have seen the effects of pollution and how little there is being done to stop this. I hope I can learn more about conservation of wildlife/wilderness and spread my knowledge in the areas that I came from. Also, I am interested in companies and how they can look towards being more environmentally friendly as many corporations these days are trying to do so. I look forward to being in this class!
